February 2023 - Milk @ ESW - Newhaven, Edinburgh

Milk is a little Newhaven gem – its hidden away on the cycle path as part of the Edinburgh Sculpture Workshop. It is light and airy and dog and child friendly so its always a mix of people, children and dogs.

The Food

Milk has a lovely brunch menu as well as massive sandwiches, specials and lots of delicious scones and cakes.

For this visit, I tried the Veggie Breakfast which was so tasty and healthy. The egg was perfectly poached and the sourdough soaked up all the egg and harissa which was spicy enough to add flavour but not kill all the other flavours.

For sandwiches, we chose Fire roasted peppers, feta, fresh basil, harissa with mixed leaves on a Germagrain baguette. This was massive and tasted delicious although not quite as impressive as a Veggie Breakfast!!

Although we didn’t have a cake on this occasion I have in the past and they are always delicious – I can recommend that carrot cake and the scones!!

The AF alternative

So, this is a brunch and coffee place so I am in heaven – I don’t drink coffee so I love it when they have a special latte to make me feel like I have a fancy coffee without the coffee, my favourite is the Beetroot and Turmeric latte which is a gorgeous purple colour and tastes amazing.

Final thoughts

This is a great little neighbourhood café which caters for everyone – parents, dog owners, coffee connoisseurs, vegan and gluten free diets. They do both sit in and take away but you can’t book at the weekend so you just have to pop along (I have always managed to get a table so don’t let that put you off)

It is quite reasonable – my amazing veggie breakfast was £9.95 and sandwiches were £7.90
If your down in Newhaven and looking for a brunch / lunch place definitely check Milk out.
