Bodega is situated on Leith Walk and specialises in street style tacos and lots of varieties of margaritas, tequila and cocktails. Its worth the wander down Leith Walk from town to try it out!
The Food
The menu is small but mighty - starters include the obligatory house guacamole and chips as well as the most delicious chicken wings. After you have whet your appetite its Taco time - there are a selection of meat and vegetarian options. Its worth noting Bodega only use gluten free flours and panko crumbs making most of the menu suitable for those with a GF diet and all vegetarian options can be made vegan on request so really covers a lot of the dietary requirement boxes.
To start we had the chicken wings which were coated in a Korean style sticky sauce which was amazing. The meat just fell off the wings and we scoffed them in seconds, although we did need a few extra napkins.
For the tacos we decided on the Beef Barbacoa, the Roasted Squash and the Tempura Avocado tacos. Tacos are served in pairs so we agreed to share which was great and allowed us to try them all. We both agreed our favourite was the Roasted Squash tacos with a zingy chimichurri salsa which really made the dish. The other two were also delicious, even if tempura avocado does sound a bit odd. Alongside the tacos we also ordered a side of the Mexican Sweetcorn. We were expecting it to be corn on the cob but it was actually a bowl of sweetcorn with chilli and a creamy parmesan and lime crema which took the sweetcorn to a whole different taste level. I actually preferred the fact it came in a bowl as it made it so much easier to share and eat ... but I forgot to take a picture of it!!
There is a dessert menu with dishes such as churros with chilli chocolate and a caramelised banana ice cream (which almost tempted me) but we felt the above was just the perfect amount for 2 people so we gave them a miss.
The AF Alternatives
So Bodega is known for its margaritas which they do by the glass or as a pitcher. But, the good news is, if you are AF you don't need to miss out - they do a virgin margarita which looked just like my friends classic margarita and tasted great (I would suggest even better than the classic version when you know you won't have a tequila hangover the next day!)
Most people literally order tacos and margaritas here but they do also have Lucky Saint AF lager as well as a selection of soft drinks if margaritas really are not your thing!
